Last Wednesday, I decided to make positive changes to my diet. I started the RESET Program with USANA Nutrimeal, and I’m glad I did. It was the beginning of a rewarding journey.

Why I Decided to Make a Change

I’ve always been ambivalent when it comes to my weight. As long as I could climb mountains at least once a year, I was okay with my body. I knew I’ve gotten out of shape since I started working night shifts but it wasn’t a problem for me.

However, in July, I learned what was going on behind the scenes as my waistline increased. My poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle were contributing to the deterioration of my body. A week after I got back from Singapore, I was hospitalized due to gastritis. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had in my adult life, and I decided I will not let that happen again.

I decided to make changes to my diet. Little by little, I eliminated foods high in fat and cholesterol, while trying to add fiber and reduce my rice intake. I also started taking supplements from Usana: Cellsentials™, Proflavanol® C100, Hepasil DTX™, and Probiotic.

Around the same time, I decided to take on the RESET challenge.

Usana’s RESET Program

What is Usana’s RESET program, anyway? It’s the first phase of a 12-week weight management program designed by Usana, an American nutritional company. Nutrimeal helps you kickstart a healthier lifestyle by reducing your craving for high-glycemic foods.

RESET Program

Here’s a detailed breakdown of what I felt every day, and what I ate. Take note that this was only drawn from my own experience; your body’s reaction might differ from mine. If I would do it again, I would have prepared more fruits for my snacks.

Day 1. I traveled from Makati to Cainta to visit my cousin, which was a bad idea because I got tired easily. By nighttime, I was light-headed and dizzy. Apart from Nutrimeal, I only had two bananas, two pears, and two light salads.

Day 2. I went to work and did everything as usual – I walked 30 minutes to the office, then stayed in the building for lunch. Throughout the day, I was slightly feverish because I caught a cold the previous day. In addition to Nutrimeal, I had one green apple, three bananas, and a light salad.

Day 3. I felt dizzy at certain times of the day and I was still feverish. I had a cough and a runny nose but I didn’t get any asthma attacks. I had three pears, two bananas, and a light salad today, aside from Nutrimeal.

Day 4. I had to stay at home to rest as I was down with the flu. I had three bananas and a light salad for snacks, aside from Nutrimeal. The RESET program also covers the nutritional needs of my body at the micro-level, so I was also taking several supplements.

Day 5. I had to stay in bed for the entire day because I was very sick. Besides my Nutrimeal shake, I had a total of four bananas, one light salad, and one pear.

EDIT: In the following year, around August 2018, I went on RESET again just to see if my experience would change. I didn’t have any fever then, and I felt lighter all week. I also didn’t get any dizzy spells.

How did I find it?

To be honest, I was very incredulous when my boyfriend said that this program gets instant results. He said that I should expect my clothes won’t fit anymore because I would have immediately lost weight after five days. He was right, actually. Some of my dresses actually felt a little less tight.

It has been difficult because I didn’t know what to expect when I started out. To my surprise, I lost a total of 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) in five days, and I feel better and stronger. I lost my bloated tummy by the second day, and I’m thankful for that.

I know this will be the start of a healthier lifestyle. I get full a lot faster now, and I’ve developed a strong aversion to salty and fatty foods, so I guess I won’t be enticed by fast food anymore.

It was what I needed to start the shift to a meat-free diet. If you’ve been looking for a way to help you shift to vegetarianism, this might be your best bet.

One More Thing

If you feel out of control with your diet, you may want to use the 5-Day RESET as a time to get in touch with the emotional relationship you have with food. If you decide to try the RESET program for yourself, let me congratulate you right now! It won’t be easy, but it’s worth it.

Here’s how you can manage your emotions throughout the program.

  • Keeping a journal throughout the five days can help you identify and work through those feelings.
  • Note the things that trigger your non-hunger desire to eat or drink.
  • Make an action plan. (Try things like deep breathing, calling a good friend to catch up, walking in nature, or even just watching a funny video.)
  • Stress is a big trigger for overeating. So, managing your stress during this time will be important to your program’s success.
  • Enlist the support of your friends and family.
  • Create a playlist of upbeat music to keep you motivated and energized.
  • Commit to getting enough quality sleep. Set a bedtime and power off your electronics an hour before.
  • Try meditating in the evening or first thing when you wake up.

It can be challenging to take time for yourself, but even the smallest steps will lead to your success. Remember, this is a time to focus on yourself and your personal wellness. Learn from it and embrace the journey.
