5 Places to Visit with Your Mom on a Weekend

Mother’s Day has come and gone, but that shouldn’t stop us from having a good time with the best woman in our life. Here are five places in Luzon where we can spend quality time with our moms without spending too much.

Manila sunset

There are many bars in Malate, but I doubt it’s the kind of place we’d want to visit with our mom, if ever. When my mom and I spent an afternoon here, we heard Mass at the Malate Church, watched the sunset, then had dinner at Max’s across the Rajah Sulayman Plaza.

Burnham Park

A weekend in Baguio is always a good idea to make any Filipino mom happy. It’s crowded and polluted, but who said you have to tour the city? Last year, on one of our impromptu trips, my mother and I just went there to get dried fish and walis at the palengke. We also visited my favorite restaurant in Baguio, Kidlat Tahimik’s Oh My Gulay.

Manaoag Shrine

I descended from a long line of Catholics from Pangasinan, so this is kind of a given for us. My mom’s a Marian devotee, and she regularly visits different churches. Needless to say, she really enjoys visiting Manaoag. I’m sure your mom would, too, if she’s Catholic.

Binondo Archway

Binondo and Quiapo

Whenever my mom feels nostalgic about her childhood, we end up eating at her favorite restaurant in Binondo. It’s beautiful how the restaurants in Sta. Cruz and Binondo where my mom used to hang out with friends when she was young are still in business. This way, she can easily show me what the Manila of old used to be like.

Pinto Art Museum

My mom visits the Antipolo Shrine every year as part of her panata. I admit I’ve never joined her, but the next time she does, I’ll make sure to ask her to visit Pinto Art Museum in San Roque, Antipolo. There’s a lovely little café in there which serves awesome pizza and pasta. The museum is also perfect for mothers who love the visual arts.

What about you? What places do you usually visit with your mom? Let me know in the comments! =)
