Thunderbird Resorts & Casinos La Union

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed how I seldom post about beaches and resorts. It’s no secret that I’m not as fond of beaches as I am of mountains, so on holidays, you’ll more likely find me in Cavite or the Cordilleras than in Aurora or Batangas.

Last weekend was different though. I joined our company’s team building activity at Thunderbird Resorts & Casinos – Poro Point in the vibrant town of San Fernando, La Union. I had a great time, so I decided to write about my experience.

Location

Located at Poro Point, San Fernando, Thunderbird offers an amazing view of the mountains of La Union. Flanked by beaches and the sea on both sides, the resort is an ideal spot for viewing the beautiful West Philippine Sea sunset.

Amenities

Thunderbird Resorts & Casinos has everything you can ask for in a family-friendly resort. They have something for everyone: a spa, several swimming pools, beach access, a golf course, a casino, and other areas for recreational activities.

I enjoyed the games prepared by the staff, which include:

Playing with a giant Jenga
Running in a “hamster wheel” for humans
Playing in a human foosball game
Playing and running after a giant beach volleyball
Jumping over these hurdles from hell

(I tripped from these hurdles twice and it was painful and embarrassing.)

Service

Although the place itself is beautiful, I don’t think the staff was prepared for the throngs that drove in from Manila and other nearby provinces. We had to wait for a bit in our bus before we were accommodated for lunch, then wait another four hours to get our rooms ready and receive our key cards.

Nevertheless, the wait staff is very friendly and responsive to our needs. Throughout the day, the facilitators of our team building activities were professional and helpful enough: one of our colleagues was injured while playing the human foosball and she was treated right away.

Food

I overheard some of my workmates complain about the food (not complain complain, they just said that they didn’t like the food). As for me, I absolutely enjoyed every meal! They served Pangasinense/Ilocano delicacies that delighted my Pangasinense heart, like pinakbet, binagoongan, and Ilocano longganisa (local sausages). They even had lato, which they presented as the “seaweed in season” haha. I only wished they had bagoong and that I had more of the grilled pusit.
