Sustainable Travel

Glan, Sarangani

Read Time:3 Minute, 40 Second

It’s been a while since I’ve gone on what I can truly consider as a vacation. Most of the time, I have to make do with a long weekend to get anywhere, which is such a shame. The last time I had a proper vacation was my visit to Mindanao about two years ago. One of the towns that we visited was Glan, Sarangani.

I hardly remember the details, but I vividly remember how beautiful the places were. It was my first time to be away from home for a long time, and it had been very rewarding. Let me share a few photos from my backpacking trip in Sarangani with good friends from college.

According to our tricycle driver, Sarangani has not experienced any typhoons in the last 50 years. It’s no wonder then that many families in Glan were able to preserve their ancestral house.

Sarangani is actually closer to Indonesia than it is to Manila. I think that’s why we have an immigration office in one of the ports in Glan.

Known for its pristine beaches, the municipality of Glan attracts hundreds of tourists every year. With powdery white sand and the calm shores facing the Celebes Sea, Glan’s beaches are ideal as a quiet getaway for families and friends.

One of the things that I can’t forget about my trip to Mindanao is its rich biodiversity. Even the flowers that grow on the side of the road can be captivating.

Calamares
Born and raised in the city, I don’t often get a chance to eat fresh seafood dishes. In Sarangani, fisherfolk visit the resorts and offer their day’s catch to tourists. For less than P200, we were able to buy a kilo of freshly caught squid.

Janis

I’m a person of simple tastes and wants. All I’ve ever wanted since I was 12 was to have my own room where I can display my notebook collection. When I was 16, I was content to stay in bed and write in my journal. At 22, I thought I needed nothing more than classical music and a bowl of spaghetti.
